Patna, May 13: With a view to promoting a green, modern and environmental friendly transportation system in the state, the state cabinet on Wednesday approved “Mukhya Mantri Bihar Paryawaran Anukul Pariwahan Rozgar Yojana” (Chief Minister Bihar Environment-Friendly Transport Employment Scheme) and “Bihar Electric Vahan (Sanshodhan) Niti 2026 (Bihar Electric Vehicle (Amendment) Policy, 2026) to give incentives to buy electric vehicles.
With the implementation of the new policy, the use of electric vehicles in Bihar will receive widespread encouragement which will not only help control pollution but also create new employment opportunities.
The government said that the objective of this scheme is to reduce vehicle-related pollution, maintain ambient air quality, and ensure that by the year 2030, at least 30 percent of the total sales of new vehicles consist of electric vehicles, Cabinet Secretariat Department’s Additional Chief Secretary Arvind Kumar Chaudhary told reporters here in a post cabinet briefing held at IPRD’s conference room.
Under the new policy, women purchasing electric four-wheelers will receive a subsidy of up to Rs 1 lakh per vehicle, Transport Secretary Raj Kumar said and added that women buying electric two-wheelers will get an incentive amount of Rs 12,000. The incentive amount will be applicable for the financial year 2026-27. The initiative is being considered an important step towards making women self-reliant and environmentally conscious.
With the promotion of electric vehicles in Bihar, approximately 100 million liters of petrol/diesel will be saved annually by the year 2030. This will not only result in direct economic savings for the state and reduce transportation costs for the general public, but will also significantly improve air quality by preventing the emission of millions of tons of carbon into the atmosphere.
Attractive subsidies for different categories–
On the purchase of electric two-wheelers, beneficiaries from the general category will receive a subsidy of Rs 10,000 per vehicle, while beneficiaries belonging to the Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) categories will receive Rs 12,000 per vehicle.
Similarly, for the purchase of electric commercial three-wheelers, the general category will be provided financial assistance of Rs 50,000, whereas SC and ST beneficiaries will be eligible for getting assistance of up to Rs 60,000.
The incentive amount will be transferred directly to the beneficiaries’ bank accounts through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).
The official said that commercial electric vehicles will generate employment opportunities, while providing incentives for non-commercial vehicles to women will help empower them and promote self-reliance.
A total of 19 decisions were taken at today’s cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary.
