Strict action will be taken against any Anganwadi worker or helper showing negligence in the distribution of supplementary nutrition during the summer season
Patna, April 3
In view of the rapidly increasing heat and the possibility of heatwaves across the state, the operating hours of Anganwadi centers have been revised. As per the directions of the Social Welfare Department, all Anganwadi centers in the state will now function from 7:30 AM to 11:30 AM. This change has been made keeping in mind the health and safety of young children, pregnant women, and lactating mothers, so that they are not exposed to intense afternoon heat, humidity, and related health risks. Under the new schedule, centers will start early in the morning and close before noon, ensuring uninterrupted delivery of nutrition, early education, and health services.
The Social Welfare Department has clarified that if the intensity of heat increases further, the District Magistrates (DMs) of the concerned districts have the authority to modify the timings or temporarily close the Anganwadi centers. All district administrations have been instructed to remain alert and continuously monitor the situation.
The department has warned that strict action will be taken against any Anganwadi worker or assistant found negligent in the distribution of supplementary nutrition during the summer. All workers have been directed to ensure regular supply, quality, and proper distribution of nutrition. Nutrition gardens and other activities will also continue smoothly as per the revised schedule.
Parents have been requested to send their children to Anganwadi centers according to the new timing (7:30 AM to 11:30 AM). They are also advised to take precautions against the heat, such as dressing children in light cotton clothes, ensuring adequate hydration, and keeping them indoors during the afternoon. Anganwadi workers have been instructed to reach the centers on time and complete all activities—such as nutrition distribution, pre-school education, and health check-ups—within the designated hours. This initiative reflects the state government’s commitment to the welfare of children and vulnerable groups. The department is continuously monitoring weather conditions and will issue further instructions if required.
