Reports of discontent within the party are emerging after the appointment of Kewal Singh Dhillon as the new president of the BJP in Punjab. Amidst speculation about leaving the party, former Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi on Saturday. Following his meeting with Amit Shah, the former Chief Minister met with Union Health Minister and former BJP President JP Nadda.
In a post on the social media platform ‘X’, Amarinder Singh stated that he had a meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi and discussed several issues related to Punjab. He mentioned his meeting with the Union Health Minister in another post. In the social media post, the former Punjab CM wrote that he met with Union Health and Family Welfare Minister JP Nadda in New Delhi and discussed various issues related to Punjab.
Responding to Singh’s post, Union Health Minister JP Nadda wrote that he met with senior BJP leader and former Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh in New Delhi. We discussed several political issues, including Punjab.
Ahead of the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections, the BJP appointed Kewal Singh Dhillon as the party’s new state president on May 28th. He replaced Sunil Jakhar, the party’s main Hindu face in the state.
Regarding the appointment of the Punjab BJP chief, former Chief Minister Amarinder Singh said that the party high command did not consult him before appointing Dhillon. However, he congratulated the new state president in a social media post.
The former Chief Minister wrote, “Congratulations to Kewal Singh Dhillon on being appointed President of the Bharatiya Janata Party Punjab. Wishing him immense success in strengthening the party across Punjab.”
