The Yogi Adityanath-led BJP government in Uttar Pradesh canceled the state police constable recruitment examination due to widespread complaints of question paper leaks and other irregularities in the examination process across the state. Over 48 lakh aspirants were competing for 67,000 police constable positions. Initially, the government denied the allegations of the paper leak but later ordered re-examination within 6 months and a probe by the Special Task Force.
The opposition parties, including the Samajwadi Party (SP) and the Congress, claimed the cancellation of the exam as a “big victory for student power and unity of the youth.” They alleged that the cancellation was a defeat for the BJP government and accused the government of playing games with unemployed young men and women in the name of jobs. The opposition parties also demanded that the BJP government return the fees collected through form submission and criticized the government’s handling of the situation.
