MGNREGA scheme workers protest against new attendance system

New Delhi: MGNREGA (Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act) workers are fiercely protesting against the new app-based attendance system. National scheme workers from all over the country sitting on protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar for the last several days.

The laborers say that in the new NMMS app, their wages are being deducted citing technical reasons. They are constantly being shown absent due to which their money is not being paid.

The organizations leading the protest commented “this opposition will continue till the government does not listen to us. Workers from different parts of the country will come here and join the relay dharna every week.”

On the call of MGNREGA Sangharsh Morcha, scheme-listed workers are protesting at Jantar Mantar since last 13th of February. Most of the laborers are from West Bengal, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka and other states of the country also participated in it.

It is notable that in the current financial year, the National Mobile Monitoring Software for allocation of very low budget, getting work and attendance in MGNREGA. A new app system called NMMS application has been implemented. MGNREGA workers are opposing this new system.
