Karnataka announces free bus rides for working women, school students from April

Date:

Bengaluru: Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, announced that from April 1, working women and school children will be able to ride public buses for free. The aim of this scheme is to help women become self-sufficient.

The plan is to introduce mini school buses and use existing buses for the operation. Each taluk will need a minimum of five buses during school hours, and more grants will be released if necessary. Transport plays an important role in economic development, so it has been given priority in the state budget for FY 2023-24.

The Chief Minister also inaugurated a special transport team called ‘Ambari,’ which has sleeper facilities like railway sleeper coaches. The new multi-axle buses have been designed to provide better facilities and comfort to commuters, unlike the earlier version of Volvo buses.

The Chief Minister suggested that the state transport corporation should purchase more of these buses to provide a comfortable night journey for the passengers. Overall, the government aims to provide good service to commuters and support working staff and management.
