Supreme Court PIL: Urgent intervention demand on religious land encroachment

New Delhi: An urgent PIL has been submitted seeking the Supreme Court’s intervention in protecting the land of places of worship.

Vamana Prabhu, a Malayali, has filed a petition in the Supreme Court, demanding that the land donated to various places of worship is encroached upon and the state governments should be instructed to stop this.

The petitioner has brought to the attention of the court the encroachment of lands, including temples and waqf boards, and the petitioner demands that action be taken to prevent this and that the government of the respective states should be directed to take concrete steps in this regard.

The petition also alleges that the land mafia is encroaching on the land of places of worship in many states.
