People in Karnataka’s Coorg now use facemasks to save themselves from tigers!

Date:

Bengaluru: According to reports, several people in Karnataka’s Coorg were saved from tiger attacks by wearing facemasks. The novel idea was suggested by the honorary Secretary of Environment and Health Foundation Colonel C.P. Muttanna.

Muttanna points out that tigers usually attack their prey from behind, He said that people can wear face masks on the back of their heads to avoid a conflict situation. He claimed that as many as five lives in Kodagu district with this technic.

Locals in southern Kodagu are scared over the increasing instances of man-tiger conflicts. In this scenario, Muttanna at a press conference highlighted the technique followed by the residents of the Sunderban region in West Bengal.

He also shared a few ‘tips’ for locals. He has asked the government to construct toilets for houses that still do not have toilets because tigers often attack those who go out to answer nature’s call during the early morning hours.

He asked people not to dispose of the dead bodies of cattle killed by tigers as they have a habit of eating a portion of the killed and then come back later to eat the remaining portion. He warned that if they dispose of so, the tiger would then try to make another kill.

Muttanna also urged the district administration to make suitable transport arrangements for school-going kids in areas facing tiger menace.
