The CBI’s lack of significant action in the Disha Salian case is raising suspicion

On September 2nd, the Bombay High Court transferred Disha Salian’s case from the Mumbai Police to the CBI. Since then, the CBI has not even conducted a custodial inquiry against any of the individuals named as accused by Disha Salian’s father, Satish Salian, including Aditya Thackeray, Rhea Chakraborty, and Dino Morea. Only the CBI knows what the CBI is doing behind the scenes after taking over this case, but its lackadaisical approach has raised public suspicion that the CBI is colluding with these influential accused to hush up this case and prove it to be a case of suicide, just like the Sushant Singh Rajput case. This public suspicion is not entirely unfounded, as similar laxity by the CBI led the Bombay High Court to revoke the lookout circular issued by the CBI against Rhea Chakraborty and her brother Soumik Chakraborty in the Sushant Singh Rajput case. Let’s explore the issue of the CBI’s issuance and revocation of the lookout circular against Rhea Chakraborty and her brother Swami Chakraborty, which has led to growing public suspicion that the CBI’s lax approach will prove to be the same in Disha Salian’s case, ultimately declaring Disha Salian’s case a suicide without conducting a thorough investigation.

In the Sushant Singh Rajput death case, the CBI issued a lookout circular (LOC) against Rhea Chakraborty and her family, stating that their travel abroad could compromise the investigation or cause them to flee the country. The Bombay High Court and later the Supreme Court quashed this lookout circular:

The Bombay High Court and the Supreme Court (bench headed by Justice B.R. Gavai) termed the CBI’s action and petition as “frivolous.”
The court stated that Rhea Chakraborty and her family hold established and responsible positions in society, have fully cooperated with the investigation, and there is no basis or likelihood that they will flee the country or escape justice. The court also told the CBI that no agency can harass anyone by issuing a lookout circular against them and then sit idly by. It is noteworthy that despite issuing lookout circulars against Rhea Chakraborty and her brother Swami Chakraborty, the CBI did not even conduct a preliminary investigation for a long time.
The Supreme Court upheld the Bombay High Court’s decision, dismissing the CBI and the Maharashtra government’s petition.

The complete details of the Central Bureau of Investigation’s closure report and the latest legal updates related to the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput are provided below:

After a detailed investigation spanning over four years, the CBI filed a closure report in this case in a special court in Mumbai on March 22, 2025.

Conspiracy ruled out: The CBI clarified in its report that no evidence of foul play or conspiracy was found in Sushant Singh Rajput’s death.

Suicide confirmed: Based on the AIIMS forensic report and other technical evidence, the CBI has ruled it a case of suicide.

Clean chit to Rhea Chakraborty: This closure report has cleared actress Rhea Chakraborty and her family. The agency found no evidence to suggest that Rhea instigated Sushant’s suicide or embezzled his funds.

In October 2025, Sushant Singh Rajput’s family and their lawyer dismissed the CBI’s closure report, calling it an “eyewash.”

They alleged that the CBI delayed submitting the necessary supporting documents (such as medical reports, witness statements, and bank statements) to the court along with the closure report.

The family filed a protest petition in court against this closure report.

CBI FIR in Disha Salian Case (September 2026)
Following the closure of the Sushant Singh Rajput case, a major legal turning point occurred on September 14, 2026, when, on the orders of the Bombay High Court, the CBI filed a new FIR in the case of the death of Sushant’s former manager, Disha Salian.

This investigation was initiated based on a complaint filed by Disha Salian’s father, alleging a link between Disha and Sushant’s deaths.
Many big names have come to light in this new FIR and the investigating agency is re-examining the links to find out whether there was any connection between the two cases.
