During the hearing on the petitions filed regarding the NEET paper leak, the government informed the Supreme Court that Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself is monitoring the matter. On Friday (May 29, 2026), the Supreme Court expressed concern over the cancellation of the paper and asked to ensure that the exam was conducted properly. In response, the government stated that the Prime Minister himself is overseeing the matter.
The NEET UG exam was held on May 3, but was canceled due to the paper leak controversy. The exam is now scheduled to be held simultaneously across the country on June 21. Several medical students and doctors have filed petitions seeking the replacement of the National Testing Agency (NTA) in connection with the paper leak. In the previous hearing, a bench of Justices P.S. Narasimha and Alok Aradhe issued notices on these petitions and sought a response from the NTA.
The court had asked what steps have been taken so far on the suggestions made by the high-powered committee formed after its 2024 order to strengthen the NEET system. Radhakrishnan (former ISRO Chairman), the chairman of the high-powered committee, appeared in person at today’s hearing. Radhakrishnan explained that the committee had made 60 suggestions in 2024, many of which have been implemented, and the 2025 exam was successfully conducted.
During the hearing, the Supreme Court stated that it was a matter of great concern that students faced such a situation. The court asked the government to ensure that the exam was conducted smoothly. The central government should file a response.
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta appeared before the Supreme Court on behalf of the NTA and the government and informed the court that several steps are being taken to ensure the smooth conduct of the exam scheduled for June 21st. The court will now hear the matter in the second week of July.
