LPG Gas Cylinder Subsidy: For millions of consumers in India who use Indane, HP, or Bharat Gas cylinders, the subsidy is a major financial relief. According to the rules, the subsidy amount is transferred directly to the consumer’s bank account after the cylinder is booked and delivered.
However, for some time now, many consumers have been complaining that their LPG subsidy has suddenly stopped. If this is happening to you, the reason could be some strict regulations imposed by the government and oil companies, or some unintentional mistakes on your part. Let’s explore the three main reasons for the subsidy stoppage and its solutions.
The main reasons for your LPG subsidy being stopped are as follows:
Aadhaar and bank account not linked (Aadhaar-Bank Mapping)
Under the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) scheme, the government transfers subsidy funds directly to the bank account linked to your Aadhaar card. Many times, consumers have an active bank account, but it isn’t linked to your Aadhaar card through NPCI (National Payments Corporation of India) mapping. If your Aadhaar and bank account are not properly linked, the government system cannot transfer funds to your account. This problem can also occur if you recently changed your bank account or closed your old account.
Incomplete e-KYC
To prevent black marketing of gas cylinders and eliminate fraudulent connections, the government has made Aadhaar-based e-KYC mandatory for all consumers. If you have not completed biometric (thumbprint or face scan) verification at your gas agency (distributor) or through the company’s mobile app, your connection is placed in the “suspect” category. Subsidies for such suspicious connections are immediately stopped, and if extended, the connection may even be blocked.
₹10 Lakh Annual Income Rule
In addition to these technical issues, a government rule is also responsible for this. According to government rules, families or consumers with an annual taxable income of ₹10 lakh or more are not eligible for LPG subsidy. If either spouse’s annual income exceeds this limit, the system automatically stops your subsidy based on the Income Tax Return (ITR) data.
Restart a paused subsidy. Restarting a paused subsidy is very easy. Follow the following steps:
Check your subsidy status: Online. First, visit the official LPG website, mylpg.in, and check your ‘Subsidy Status’ to see why the payment is blocked.
Go to the gas agency and get your e-KYC done: Biometric verification. If the status shows e-KYC as pending, immediately visit the nearest gas agency (distributor) with your Aadhaar card and update your KYC by getting your fingerprint or face scan done.
Ensure Aadhaar-DBT linking at the bank: Visit the bank branch. Visit your bank branch and fill the form to ensure that your account is linked to Aadhaar card for DBT and mapped to NPCI.
