A video of Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, is currently going viral, in which he is seen discussing the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) performance in West Bengal. On Thursday (April 23), Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said that the BJP’s rise in West Bengal was due to the governance failures of the TMC government led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. He stressed that if Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had run a clean government and not polarized Bengal, the BJP would not have had a clear path. He said that only the Congress can defeat the BJP in the ideological battle.
Rahul Gandhi’s statement came as voting was underway for the first phase of the West Bengal elections. The second phase will be held on April 29, and the counting of votes will take place on May 4.
Rahul Gandhi’s comments are also significant because the Trinamool Congress (TMC) is part of the opposition alliance ‘INDIA’. The Bharatiya Janata Party shared his video from its official X handle, writing, “Rahul Gandhi is constantly dropping truth bombs about the TMC. Thank you once again, Rahul ji.”
However, in his message to the voters of Bengal, Rahul Gandhi described this assembly election as an ideological battle between the Congress and the BJP. He accused the BJP of undermining democratic processes and said that the BJP’s ideology is contrary to the Constitution. He also criticized the Trinamool Congress government. The Congress MP alleged that political polarization in the state has created space for the BJP’s expansion.
Rahul Gandhi posted on X about West Bengal, saying, “Brothers and sisters of West Bengal, only the Congress can defeat the BJP in this ideological battle. They snatch rights, we give them.” They destroy the Constitution, we save it.” He claimed that the BJP wants to destroy India’s diversity, while we respect every culture, every language along with Bengal. The Congress leader said, “Let us make the Congress victorious with a huge margin and form a government of justice, respect and progress in Bengal.”
