– ₹340 crore to be spent on five schemes worth more than ₹30 crore, strict instructions to engineers to monitor embankments
– Ring dam to be built to protect AIIMS Darbhanga from waterlogging
At the 66th meeting of the Bihar State Flood Control Board, approval was granted for a total expenditure of ₹1,117.27 crore for 384 additional flood protection schemes to be completed before the 2026 flood year. Additionally, the Bihar State Flood Control Board held detailed discussions on five schemes costing more than ₹30 crore. A total of ₹340.17 crore will be spent on these five schemes. Of the five projects, four are erosion prevention projects, and one involves the construction of a ring dam to protect AIIMS, Darbhanga from waterlogging. The meeting was chaired by Shri Vijay Kumar Chaudhary, Honorable Minister of Water Resources and Chairman of the Bihar State Flood Control Board.
Addressing the meeting, Shri Vijay Kumar Chaudhary, Minister of Water Resources, stated that monitoring of all embankments in the state should be ensured. He directed engineers to personally inspect the site and submit a report to the department. He also directed that necessary repairs in all sensitive areas be completed promptly in coordination with the local administration. He also stated that any problems observed in the implementation of the projects should be immediately reported. The Flood Control Board meeting also discussed the construction of a ring dam, drainage channel, sump with pump house, and sump to protect AIIMS, Darbhanga from waterlogging, at a cost of ₹92.66 crore.
In the meeting, the member of Bihar State Flood Control Board, Principal Secretary of Water Resources Department, Shri Santosh Kumar Mall, along with representatives of Planning and Development Department, Finance Department, Revenue and Land Reforms Department, Disaster Management Department, Ganga Flood Control Commission, other members of the Board and senior officers of the Water Resources Department were also present. At the beginning of the meeting, the Board was apprised of the status of compliance of the decisions taken in the 65th meeting of Bihar State Flood Control Board on 5 May last year.
