Putin bans Russian oil exports to countries using price cap

Date:

Moscow: Russia issued a decree Tuesday to ban oil sales to countries and companies that comply with a price cap agreed by Western nations in response to Moscow’s offensive in Ukraine.

‘The supply of Russian oil and oil products to foreign legal entities and individuals is prohibited if the contracts for these supplies’ are using a price cap, the presidential decree said, adding that it will be in effect from February 1 until July 1.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Moscow would ban oil exports to the EU countries that put a price cap on Russian oil.

Earlier this month, Putin had hinted that Russia could cut oil production and would not sell oil to any country that imposes the West’s “stupid” price cap.

His reaction came after the G-7 countries, the European Union and Australia agreed to a $60 per barrel price cap on Russian seaborne crude oil over Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine in February this year.
