Tragic death to mother and child after collapse of metro pillars; CM announces compensation of Rs 20 lakh

Bengaluru: In a tragic incident, two including a mother and child were killed as a pillar of the metro collapsed. The incident was reported near Nagavara of the outer ring road in Bengaluru. The pillar under construction in HBR Layout on Outer Ring Road collapsed. The pillar collapsed and hit a bike on which a couple and their twin children were travelling yesterday morning.

Tejasvani (28) and her son Vihan sustained grievous injuries in the accident. They were rushed to a nearby hospital but could not save their lives. Her husband Lohith and daughter also sustained serious injuries. The couple was wearing helmets.

Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai announced a compensation of Rs 20 lakh to the family of the dead. The compensation is given from the chief ministers’ relief fund. The chief minister had termed the incident as unfortunate. The chief minister had directed the authorities to investigate the reason for the collapse and said that a case will be registered against those responsible.

Meantime, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL) had also announced a compensation of Rs 20 lakh for the family of the dead. The hospital expenses of her husband and daughter will also be borne by them.

The accident happened when the construction of phase 2 B of Bengaluru Metro was progressing. The pillar made of metal rods was 40 feet long. The pillar collapsed on top of them. Transportation came to a standstill following the accident.
