Four killed in Tamil Nadu as crane collapses in temple festival

Chennai: As many as four people were killed after a crane collapsed during a temple festival. The incident happened at the Draupathi temple of Tamil Nadu’s Ranipet.

The deceased are identified as K Muthu Kumar (39), S Bhoopalan (40) and B Jyothi Babu (17). Eight sustained injuries in the accident that happened at 8.15 pm last night.

The accident happened when the crane carrying the idols of the temple collapsed during the procession as part of the Pongal festival. The crane crashed to the crowd on the ground. Those atop the crane were those killed.

The injured was admitted to the Arakkonam taluk hospital and primary health center in Ponnai whose condition is serious. The police have started an investigation.
