Passport Seva Mobile Van Camp at Nalanda University, Rajgir;
April 11, 2026
Under the Ministry of External Affairs’ people-centric initiative “Passport Seva – Passport at Your Doorstep,” the Regional Passport Office (RPO), Patna, organized a one-day Passport Seva Mobile Van Camp at the prestigious Nalanda University, Rajgir, on April 11, 2026.
Nalanda University, located in Rajgir, under the Ministry of External Affairs, holds immense historical and educational significance. It symbolizes the revival of the ancient Nalanda Mahavihara—one of the world’s oldest residential universities—and reflects India’s rich educational heritage. Modern Nalanda University carries forward this tradition, fostering global academic collaborations and attracting students and scholars from across the world.
The purpose of this special passport camp was to provide passport services to students, faculty members, officials, and the wider academic community associated with the university. The initiative aimed to provide convenient access to passport-related services within the campus and simplify the application process. Fifty-five beneficiaries benefited from this camp.
The camp was inaugurated by Ambassador Sibi George, Indian Foreign Service (1993 batch), Secretary (West), Ministry of External Affairs, and Prof. Sachin Chaturvedi, Vice Chancellor of Nalanda University. Through the Passport Seva Mobile Van facility, applicants completed the entire passport application process on-site, including document verification, biometric data collection, and application submission. Considering the busy academic schedules of most applicants, this initiative proved extremely beneficial, saving time and minimizing the impact on their regular academic activities.
This special camp saw enthusiastic participation, especially from students pursuing higher education abroad, participating in international collaborations, and seeking global career opportunities. By providing passport services on-campus, this initiative not only increased accessibility and convenience but also simplified and streamlined the application process. This initiative is part of RPO Patna’s ongoing efforts to expand passport services in various areas of Bihar, reflecting the Ministry’s commitment to providing transparent, efficient, and public-friendly services. Such initiatives are an important step towards making essential services more accessible and convey the message that modern governance is proactive and inclusive.
The administration of Nalanda University provided full support for the successful organization of the camp. The successful organization of this camp reflects the joint efforts of Nalanda University and the Ministry, which are committed to increasing access to public services and making global opportunities accessible to youth by leveraging their institutional mechanisms.
So far, over 2,200 applications have been processed through 17 Passport Seva Mobile Van camps organized by RPO Patna in various districts of Bihar over the last two years. These camps have significantly improved access to passport services, especially in remote and underserved areas.
