SC verdict on demonetization; BJP demands Rahul Gandhi’s apology

Date:

New Delhi: The central government and the opposition are at loggerheads with each other after the verdict of the Supreme Court in the demonetization case. BJP national spokesperson, Ravi Shankar Prasad, said that Rahul Gandhi must apologize to the nation for criticizing demonetization.

Ravi Shankar Prasad further said that Rahul Gandhi had criticized the demonetization both at home and in foreign countries. That was unfortunate. He also asked why Congress leaders including P Chidambaram are silent about the majority ruling of the SC.

He added that demonetization paved way for the increased use of digital payments, now poor people are also using digital payments. He said that funding to terrorism has been controlled due to demonetization.

Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said that the SC verdict do not say whether the demonetization had achieved its announced aims. He said that the aims to reduce use of currency, cashless transactions, stop black money, end terrorism, find black money, etc. have not been achieved fully.
