Ghulam Nabi Azad has announced a new party. The name of his party is the Democratic Azad Party. He told the party’s name through a conference in Jammu this morning. Azad had severed his ties with Congress a few months back. Ghulam Nabi Azad said he sent about 1,500 names in Urdu and Sanskrit for his new party. But the mixture of Hindi and Urdu is ‘Hindustani.’ Enslaved people want the name to be democratic, peaceful, and free.

Ghulam said that the party’s ideology would be like his name, and all secular people could join it. Most of the senior leaders of the Jammu and Kashmir Congress are coming out in support of Azad, leaving the Congress party. Ghulam has already clarified the party’s agenda.

Ghulam Nabi Azad received the Padma Bhushan from President Ram Nath Kovind in March 2022. In 1973, Ghulam Nabi started his political career as the secretary of the Bhalesa Block Congress Committee of the Doda district. After this, the Congress Party elected him as President of the Youth Congress because of his activism and working style.

He contested and won his first parliamentary election from Maharashtra in 1980, after which he was included in the cabinet in 1982 as a Union Minister. Azad took over as the country’s health minister in the second UPA government led by Dr. Manmohan Singh.

During his tenure, he expanded the National Rural Health Mission. A National Urban Health Mission was also started to serve the urban poor living in slums. Nabi Azad has held many important ministries. He was also the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Civil Aviation in Narasimha Rao’s government.

Became the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir in 2005
In 2005, the golden time also came in the political life of Ghulam Nabi Azad when he served as the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir. The Congress had won 21 seats in the assembly elections when Azad was the president of the Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee. As a result, Congress emerged as the second largest political party in the state. But in 2008, he resigned from his post due to the Amarnath land movement.
