New Delhi: Reserve Bank of India has declared that UPI payment services will be accessible to citizens of G20 countries after arriving in India.
Until now, the UPI payment system was only available to Indian residents and non-resident Indians. Initially, this service will be available to G20 nationals entering through three airports – Bengaluru, New Delhi, and Mumbai.
A Prepaid Payments Instrument (PPI) wallet will be provided to them at the airport, which can be linked to UPI and can be used to purchase goods from around 5 crore shops.
The service can also be utilized at selected meeting spots by scanning the QR code. The wallets are endorsed by ICICI Bank, IDFC First Bank, and non-banking financial PPI institutions such as Pine Labs and Transcorp International.
