Celebrate 14 Feb as ‘Cow Hug Day’, says Department of Central Ministry

Date:

New Delhi: While the world is all set to celebrate Valentine’s Day on February 14th, the Animal Welfare Board of India has urged people to celebrate it by hugging a cow.

A circular from Animal Welfare Board says that the cow is the backbone of Indian culture and rural economy and ‘Cow Hug day’ should be observed.

The argument is that hugging cows makes you happy. This is stated in a circular issued by the Animal Welfare Board of India on Monday. It is going viral on social media.

The circular also says there is an overspreading of western culture in Indian society. The explanation given by the officials is that such a call was given to teach compassion toward animals.

Signed by Dr Sujit Kumar Dutta, secretary of the board, the appeal reads, “We all know that the cow is the backbone of Indian culture and rural economy, sustains our life, represents cattle wealth and biodiversity. It is known as ‘Kamdhenu’ and ‘Gaumata’ because of its nourishing nature like a mother, the giver of all providing riches to humanity”.

“Vedic traditions are almost on the verge of extinction due to the progress of west culture over time. The dazzle of western civilization has made our physical culture and heritage almost forgotten,” it said.
