Dr. Amish Vora, medical oncologist at the H.O.P.E Oncology Department in Hauz Khas, says that it’s crucial to take certain changes in the body seriously. While these symptoms don’t always indicate cancer, if they persist or worsen, it’s important to consult a doctor. Let’s find out the first signs of stomach cancer that should be avoided:
Recurrent indigestion and heartburn:
Dr. Vora explains that if you’ve recently experienced persistent indigestion, bloating, gas, or heartburn, it’s not wise to dismiss them as common. Sometimes, stomach cancer begins with mild symptoms like these. Especially if the problem keeps returning despite medication, it’s worth getting tested.
Unexplained weight loss: If you haven’t dieted or increased your exercise to lose weight, but still experience rapid weight loss, it can be a cause for concern. Stomach cancer affects the body’s normal digestive process, preventing the body from receiving adequate nutrition and leading to rapid weight loss.
Persistent pain or discomfort in the upper abdomen: Recurrent pain, a feeling of heaviness, or persistent discomfort in the upper abdomen can also be a sign. This pain can be mild or severe. People often ignore it, mistaking it for gas or acidity, but long-term discomfort should not be taken lightly.
Difficulty swallowing: Doctors advise that if you feel difficulty swallowing food or water, or if swallowing is painful, this could be a warning sign. If this problem gradually worsens, you should immediately consult a doctor.
Blood in vomit or stool:Do not ignore symptoms such as blood in vomit or black stool. In this situation, consult your doctor immediately so that you can receive timely treatment.
Persistent fatigue and weakness:If you feel tired all the time, lack energy, and are increasingly weak, even after adequate rest, anemia may be the cause. In many cases, slow bleeding inside the abdomen causes anemia, which can make a person feel constantly tired.
