In today’s digital age, scammers are constantly devising new ways to defraud people. Lack of information can lead innocent people to fall prey to these cybercriminals, losing their hard-earned money. Recently, scammers have developed a new method: they call ordinary people and immediately disconnect the call upon receiving a response. If you’ve received a similar call, you should definitely read this news. Today, we’re going to explain how this scam works and what action people should take. This information was provided by the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Center, Ministry of Home Affairs, through its official X handle.
The X post explains that scammers use an automated system to make thousands of calls simultaneously. As soon as you answer the call and say “hello” or respond, your number is considered active. The call is then immediately disconnected, and your number is added to a list for future scams.
If you repeatedly receive such unknown silent calls, do not respond.
Disconnect immediately upon receiving an unknown silent call.

If you repeatedly receive such calls, take immediate action. Report the suspicious number to ‘Check & Report’ on the NCRP portal.
If you or someone you know becomes a victim of any kind of scam, immediately report it to https://cybercrime.gov.in/ or call 1930.
