In a historic move, Suvendu Adhikari, head of West Bengal’s new government, on Wednesday approved a CBI investigation into officials accused of corruption in school and municipal recruitments. The Chief Minister stated that the Trinamool Congress government had deliberately withheld approval from investigating agencies to protect senior bureaucrats embroiled in four serious corruption cases, a decision that his government has now revoked.
Speaking to reporters at the secretariat, Nabanna, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari claimed that the previous government had stalled CBI action for four years. According to the law, state government permission is required to file a charge sheet or initiate prosecution against any government official.
The Chief Minister alleged that Mamata Banerjee’s government deliberately held up these files to protect its own officials. The Chief Minister stated that the necessary approval has been granted to the CBI to investigate officials accused of corruption in three major departments. Copies have been sent to the central agency.
Masterminds of the Municipal Recruitment Scam
The Teacher Recruitment Scam (WBSSC) is a case involving illegal appointments in schools. The CBI will now be able to directly file charge sheets against several senior officials in this case.
The Municipal Recruitment Scam involves the distribution of jobs in various municipalities across Bengal. The investigation will now proceed at a rapid pace.
The Chief Minister stated that the previous government had used the law as a shield to shield corrupt individuals. He stated that our fight against corruption is now at a decisive stage. Files that were locked in secretariat cabinets have now been opened so that those who looted public funds can be punished.
